THE ARRIVAL of the grade 8s was an interesting one. Seeing their expressions range from curiosity to dismay, reminded me of my first day at Port Shepstone High … a fond memory of seeing old faces and meeting new ones comes to mind. The excitement of knowing that you’re one step closer to ‘adulthood’ is dampened by the sad reality of being back at the bottom of the ‘food chain’.
The ECL body of 2014 put an exciting programme together for the gr 8s and the activities included an introduction to the ECL body, tours of the school, an informative session about the ‘code of conduct’ and what the school stands for, getting to know one another, as well as exposure to some of the sports and activities offered at the school. The aim of the ECL is to stand firm on discipline and provide guidance, by setting an example for the gr 8s.
The last activity, namely the picnic, allowed us to continue bonding and forming friendships with these younger pupils. The picnic was a good note on which to start the year.
