TWO men were lucky to escape serious injury last Friday after they fell about six metres from scaffolding erected at the Southcoast Mall.
Gerald Davey, regional manager of Redefine Properties, owners of the Southcoast Mall, said the contracting company H20 Solutions was appointed to repaint the exterior walls in the food court area of the mall.
Mr Davey said H20 advised that the high winds experienced at about midday last Friday caused the scaffolding tower to shift and the force of the impact against the building caused the scaffold to ‘bounce back’ and tip over.
“Fortunately the two painters who were operating on the scaffold were wearing safety harnesses and although they fell from the scaffolding they were not seriously injured and were able to walk away after the incident,” he said.
Mr Davey pointed out that H20 is a Durban-based company which operates locally, and it has its own safety officer who oversees the safety of its projects.
