Port Shepstone court sentences man in child assault case

The accused was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.

A man has been sentenced after severely assaulting an eight-year-old child at Nkambeni in Hibberdene on November 5 last year.

The child sustained serious head and facial injuries after allegedly being struck with a knobkerrie and open hands.

The accused was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment last month, wholly suspended for five years. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Sello Pakkies.

To protect the identity of the child, the name of the accused has been withheld.

A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened at Saps Hibberdene and assigned to Detective Sergeant Sello Pakkies of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Port Shepstone.
