A WATER meter leak has caused Pumula resident Desmond Brook no small amount of frustration and annoyance. To make matters worse, he feels he has been brushed aside by Ugu District Municipality, as it has done nothing to fix the problem, despite him reporting the matter on numerous occasions.
On January 16, Mr Brook noticed a wet patch on his precast fence and discovered that the meter was leaking. He immediately contacted Ugu and reported the problem. But no one came out.
He phoned again the next day but had to wait 40 minutes before he spoke to anyone. He was assured someone would come out to fix the leak. No one did, so he contacted Ugu again the next day, this time waiting 20 minutes before getting any help. This time he was given a reference number.
However, by Monday nothing had been done and so he resorted to visiting the Ugu offices in person. Again, he was told that someone would be sent out. However, by Friday, January 24 the problem had still not been fixed. Mr Brook said unnecessary water had been wasted. He wanted to know who would foot the bill.
Ugu was contacted for comment but none was received at the time of going to press…and the matter has still not been resolved.
