A HIGHFLATS man was convicted of kidnapping and rape in the Ixopo Regional Court on Friday, January 24. Lindokuhle Bambo Mkhize (28) was sentenced to nine months in jail for kidnapping and 18 years for rape.
According to police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum, on the evening of January 15 2012, the then 19-year-old victim was contacted telephonically by Mkhize. He arranged to meet her, supposedly to get a telephone number from her cellphone. The unsuspecting victim discovered too late that this was merely a ruse. Mkhize forced her to his house at Mhlabashane in Magqingoi Ward, Highflats, where he raped her.
The case was investigated by Detective Constable Pretty Maphumulo of the Ixopo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS).
