A LOUISIANA shop owner and his employee were confronted by two men who forced open a security gate and broke down the door of the shop to gain entry.
The premises is an RDP project residence where the front has been converted into a store and the living quarters are at the back.
Both victims were in the living quarters when the suspects accosted them. They demanded money, cellphone airtime and cigarettes.
Shots were fired, seriously wounding the man in his hand and thigh and the woman in the thigh.
The men fled the scene with cigarettes, cellphone airtime, a cellphone and cash.
Police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum said the robbery had occurred shortly after midnight.
“The victims were attended to by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital by ambulance. Police recovered a hammer believed to have been used to break down the door,” he added.
No arrests have been made as yet and investigations are continuing.
