RETIRED principal Inderani Moodley’s teaching career started in 1969 at RA Engar Primary as a specialist physical education teacher and sports organiser. She married in 1971 and was employed as a temporary teacher, but re-employed in 1973 at Umkomaas Drift Primary, after which she transferred to Port Shepstone Primary at the end of March 1973 where she taught until February 1982 in the junior primary phase.
Mrs Moodley was then transferred to Umzimkuluwana Primary from February 1982 and stayed there until the end of the year. In 1983, she was promoted to RA Engar Primary as head of department, appointed as deputy principal in 1993, and finally promoted to the post of principal in 1998. After 45 years spent teaching, Mrs Moodley retired at the end of 2013.
Although well travelled, she intends to visit many places she has not been to before. She will also be able to indulge in one of her hobbies, namely gardening, as well as spend some time with her only granddaughter.
Not only does Mrs Moodley plan on studying isiZulu and Telegu languages, she will continue her community work, especially through the Andrah Sabha.
As a manager of the school, Mrs Moodley led with conviction and integrity and always displayed a deep sense of compassion for the pupils, insisting on having a class to teach up to the day of her retirement. She always had an excellent rapport with all teachers, pupils, the governing body, as well as the community.
Although Mrs Moodley leaves a void and will be missed, the acting principal, staff, pupils and the governing body of RA Engar wish her the very best on her well-deserved retirement.
