Two arrested for pupil’s murder

He was murdered for a cellphone.

TWO men have been arrested for the murder of Roseville Secondary grade 12 pupil, Thobani Philani Shezi (21). The suspects, both from Highflats, fled the area as the community was aware that they were wanted for murder. They were arrested in the Durban area and will appear in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court soon.

A ROSEVILLE Secondary grade 12 pupil died after being robbed of his cellphone and stabbed outside the school grounds in Umzinto last Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum said Thobani Philani Shezi (21) and a group of other pupils were outside the school gates when they were approached by two men who robbed Shezi of his cellphone. One of them then stabbed him in the chest.

He was carried to the principal’s office where  he was attended to by police and paramedics. He was pronounced dead a short while later.  “No arrests have been made at this stage but a murder case has been registered by SAPS for investigation,” said Capt Pandarum.
