ONCE again Valentine’s Day is upon us. What a wonderful way for Sheppie High pupils and the Child Care Group in particular to show love and concern for fellow pupils by buying gifts for one another. All funds raised are used to help less fortunate pupils at the school.
In cricket, the first team beat Scottburgh by 74 runs, U15 lost and U14 beat Hoërskool Suid-Natal. The 1st team and U14s lost against Hillcrest while the second team won by two wickets.
Sheppie High’s swimming team was placed third out of five schools at the recent gala held at Amamzintoti High. The junior water polo teams played against Kingsway and the girls lost 2-5 and the boys drew 6-all.
Prosperity Zangwa was named player of the match in the recent first team netball game against Durban Girls’ High, which won 18-21.
The rugby first team boys beat Amamzimtoti 39-0 and the first team touch rugby boys drew 5-all against Kingsway. The second team girls lost 0-1 to Durban Girls’ High.
The basketball teams won all their games against Westville Boys’ High. First against Westville’s third team won 41-13, U16A against their C team won 74-2, U15A against their C team won 16-13 and the U14A against their C team won 13-12.
Well done to James Mellors and Thomas Russell who received gold and silver medals respectively at the recent biathlon league in the U19 boys’ age group.
James and Thomas also did well at the KZN Athletics League. James was placed second in the U19 boys’ 800 and 1500m and Thomas, in the same age group, was placed second in the 200m and 1st in the 400m. Wandile Ngcobo earned two first places in the U15 boys’ 400 and 800m. Spindile Mzindle was placed fourth in the 100m and third in the 200m for U17 girls.
Sarah Schmitz did well by being placed second in both the U17 girls’ 100 and 200m. In the girls’ U15 age group, Tenille Roux was placed third in the 200m and fourth in the 100m. Tina Vellem was placed second in the U17 girls’ long jump and Alu Mbewana was placed first in the boys’ U15 long jump and triple jump events. Enkosi Pandela was placed third in the U17 boys’ high jump and fourth in long jump. Jason Olivier received a first place for the U17 discus, second place for javelin and third place for shot put.
