A MAN (71) has been found murdered at his home in Munster.
Port Edward police were called to the scene at about 8.30am, when the domestic worker reported to work at the home in Munro Drive yesterday (Wednesday).
According to police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka, when the worker arrived at the house, she noticed that the door and the security gate were wide open.
“She then walked inside and found the owner, Geoff Stuart lying on his stomach on the bed. She immediately notified a neighbour,” said Captain Mfeka.
When the neighbour, Vic Neilson went to investigate, he saw a pale looking Mr Stuart on the bed, dead. Upon further investigation, he discovered that the house had been ransacked.
According to a police report, wardrobe drawers were left open, clothing and personal documents were scattered on the floor, and all the rooms had been ransacked.
“A small office was also tampered with. The outside globes along the verandah and carport were removed and found at the back of the house. A gate leading to the back of the house was broken and a knife was found on the ground,” said Captain Mfeka.
Various items, including a flatscreen TV, cellphone, kindle notebook, computer and the keys to the house, as well as Mr Stuart’s car were taken.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mr Stuart had taken Mr Neilson and a few friends to the annual general meeting of the South Coast Ratepayers’ Association in Uvongo.
“He went home just after 9pm,” said Mr Neilson, who said Mr Stuart had been burgled a week ago.
“The theft of worldly goods is nothing compared to the theft of life from a member of this community,” said Mr Neilson.
Margate police are investigating a murder and housebreaking case. Investigations are continuing and no arrests have been made.
