DAGGA and Mandrax tablets to the value of R21 000 were recovered at a roadblock on the N2 in Park Rynie recently. Two men were arrested.
Sergeant Mbuso Ndlovu and Constables Thabane Mofokeng and Joe Cele from the Port Shepstone SAPS K9 Unit, together with immigration officers and officers from Park Rynie, Pinetown and Winklespruit were manning a roadblock when they discovered the drugs.
“The officers stopped vehicles, especially public transport vehicles and searched the occupants, checking for drugs, illegal immigrants, stolen vehicles, unlicensed firearms and stolen property,” said police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum.
Police recovered 211 Mandrax tablets from Mondli Eugene Mkhize (36). The street value of drugs is estimated at about R14 770. Thanduxolo Thanda Msomi (44) was arrested for being in possession of 3,3kg of dagga. The estimated street value of the dagga is R6 666. Both appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court where the case against Msomi was postponed to March 5 for further investigation and Mkhize’s case was postponed to April 10 for a forensic report to confirm that the tablets are indeed Mandrax.
