CRESTON was kept very busy with several sporting events last week. The South Coast relay gala took place at Kingsway last Wednesday and Creston’s swimmers were placed a creditable fourth.
Over the weekend, Creston College took part in the Spar girls’ hockey tournament in Matatiele, which included all local hockey playing schools, as well as schools from East Griqualand. Full marks to tournament sponsors and event organisers for hosting a very good tournament. Creston girls beat Bergview 4-0, Hoërskool Suid-Natal 1-0, Ixopo 4-0, and drew with Kokstad 0-0. They then beat Southcity 1-0 in the semi-final. Creston excelled and reached the final against Kokstad College which won the final on penalty flicks.
St Patrick’s hosted its annual limited overs tournament, which attracts teams from the coast and the East Griqualand area. The standard of cricket was comparatively high and Creston beat Ashton in their first game and narrowly lost to Hoërskool Suid-Natal. Port Shepstone High was the eventual winner of this tournament.
