THE FOURTH annual Student Christian Association (SCA) talent show was held on February 19 to a sold-out audience. Pupils presented a range of entries including poetry, rap, dance and song. The winners of the talent show were Sinegugu Gumede (first), Siphesihle Majola (second), and Genesis Cele (third).
The awards ceremony took place last Wednesday evening and all awards were based on the final promotion or progress marks of 2013. Academic award winners Jarnu Hills and Aadila Shaik, both achieved junior half colours for their gr 8 year. Rayne Redinger and Lente Venter achieved junior colours for gr 9. Rahul Bagratee, Megan Graham, Mvelo Hlope, Kutloano Kapah, Sinqobile Mashalaba, Justin Parasuraman, Alka Prasad and Nerona Sook all got full colours for gr 10. Current gr 12 pupils who obtained honours for gr 11 are Nelisa Khwela, Donovan Pain, Yogeshan Pillay, Bianka Thom and Emelie Wood. ‘Top of Grade for 2013’ winners are Aadila Shaik (gr 8), Lente Venter (gr 9), Justin Parasuraman (gr 10) and Bianka Thom (gr 11).
A past pupil of PSHS, who visited the school in February, was astonished by how the school had grown over 60 years. Faith Georginia Koekemoer was one of the first standard six (gr 4) pupils back in 1953. There were some 250 pupils then, the equivalent number of only one grade today. Faith is a missionary who speaks fluent Zulu and Shangaan.
