HARASSMENT charges have been laid against Hibiscus Coast Municipality councillor, Phumlani Gumbi.
Fred Lauterbach, who owns a farm in Uvongo, opened a case after he and an Ugu employee were verbally abused by the councillor.
“Mr Lauterbach and the Ugu employee were investigating a water meter installed on his property without permission when they were harassed,” said AfriForum’s Chris Fourie.
“The municipal official said that he had never come across such racism. Mr Lauterbach also confirmed that the councillor said that he would show them what happens to white people if they dare touch the house (an illegal dwelling on the farmer’s property),” explained Mr Fourie.
HCM speaker Councillor Ronnie Nair told the Herald that Cllr Gumbi denies verbally abusing Mr Lauterbach and the municipal employee.
Cllr Nair added that he could not comment any further on this case as the matter was already in court.
Councillor Gumbi will appear in court on April 11.
