Former boyfriend arrested for kidnapping

An sms message summoned help.

A 27-YEAR-OLD man appeared in the Hibberdene Court yesterday (Wednesday) after he allegedly kidnapped a 23-year-old woman in the town on Monday this week.

The woman said when she boarded a taxi to go to work at 7am, her former boyfriend was in the taxi. When the taxi stopped, he forced her to his house and held her there against her will.

According to police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, the woman claims that the man wanted her to end her relationship with another person. “She managed to send an sms to a friend who then notified the police,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling, Constable Travis Dickens and Cst Raphael Smithwick from Port Shepstone Public Order Policing (POP), went to the area and arrested the man. The woman was unharmed. The man is facing charges of kidnapping. The case was postponed for further investigation.
