Local pastor gets award
Pastor Trevor Downham received the 2014 Lions District 410-C Citizen of the Year Award.
IN recognition of his ongoing humanitarian service and dedication to the welfare of the community, the Lions Club of Port Shepstone nominated Pastor Trevor Downham for the 2014 Lions District 410-C Citizen of the Year Award. This nomination was one of many submitted by a number of Lions Clubs in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.
Pastor Downham’s nomination was unanimously approved by the selection panel and he and his wife Helene were invited to attend the District Convention Banquet, held at Fern Hill Hotel in Howick last Saturday.
Trevor delivered an inspiring and motivational speech. He encouraged all Lions and Lionesses to focus more on being significant rather than just being successful. He paid tribute to the Lions Clubs International organisation for its ongoing service to communities around the world and encouraged each club to form partnerships with other service-minded organisations within their respective areas.
Pastor Downham was then presented with a Louis Halse Fellowship Award, the highest award in the District by Lions Council (National) Chairman Mike Newlands, a member of the Port Alfred Lions Club and representative of the Lions Clubs International President. A number of Lions Clubs from the South Coast, namely Scottburgh, Hibberdene, Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach, Ramsgate and Kokstad were represented at the convention and all were extremely proud of the fact that one of our own received this very prestigious award.
