Child (8) escapes near-drowning at St Mike’s

THANKS to the quick response by Tower 13 lifeguards, a child escaped a near-drowning at St Mike’s beach yesterday (Tuesday) at midday.

Emergency services immediately responded and treated the girl (8) at the scene. The child was believed to be swimming in the tidal pool when the incident occurred.

Robert McKenzie, KwaZulu-Natal EMS Media Liaison Officer, said the girl, who is in a critical condition, was taken to Netcare Margate Hospital.
