Meet the artists at Uvongo’s Art-in-the-Park
Launched five months ago, the event is supported by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, which provides the venue free of charge.
Residents and visitors will once again have the opportunity to enjoy an open air art exhibition at Art-in-the-Park on June 6.
The event is held in the park bordering Marine Drive, between the central Uvongo traffic lights and the iVungu River bridge, overlooking the scenic Uvongo Falls.
Hosted on the first Saturday of every month from 09:00 to 13:00, the event has become a popular addition to the South Coast’s community calendar.

“The character of this exhibition, set beneath the trees in a relaxed outdoor environment, makes it an art experience with a difference,” said event convenor Johann du Toit.
“The informal setting allows visitors to view quality original fine art paintings at their leisure, meet the artists’ in person and engage with them directly. This may well be the reason attendance continues to grow.”
The event follows the growing trend of bringing art directly to the public rather than confining exhibitions to traditional gallery spaces.
Launched five months ago, Art-in-the-Park is supported by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, which provides the venue free of charge. The initiative was created to give artists an affordable platform to exhibit and sell their work without exhibition fees or sales commissions.
Admission for artists is free, and no commission is charged on sales, allowing artworks to be offered at more accessible prices.
Since its inception, 79 artists have registered to participate, with many expected to exhibit this Saturday.
Entrance is free and ample parking is available in Wadebridge Road.
