AWARD-winning police officer Sergeant Thabane Mofokeng last Thursday night tracked down a drug dealer who had three parcels of the street-drug Cat in his possession.
Methcathinone, better known as Cat, is a popular drug predominantly used in the rave scene, or sold in night clubs. It’s also illegal and considered to be highly addictive.
Sgt Mofokeng, a recent recipient of the national commissioner’s award for commitment and dedication, was on duty when he noticed a man behaving suspiciously in Marine Drive, Margate.
He approached the man, who immediately raced off in his vehicle. Sgt Mofokeng called for assistance and the Margate Crime Intelligence Gathering and Crime Prevention members responded.
“They arrested Ifeanyi Jude Aluwele and seized three parcels of Cat, with a street value of about R1 000,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The suspected drug dealer appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court where the case was postponed.
