A MAN was shot dead by a private security guard after an attempted robbery at a flat in Southbroom during the early hours of Tuesday this week.
Margate police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said that at about 2am the homeowner heard glass breaking in the kitchen.
“The 34-year-old woman pressed the panic button,” said Captain Mfeka. ‘Within minutes a guard employed by Maser Security arrived at the house.
“The guard walked around the perimeter of the flat and was confronted by two men. One of the men fled, but the other pulled out a knife.
He stabbed the security guard in the jacket and the guard retaliated, shooting the man,” said Captain Mfeka. Fortunately the men had not gained access to the flat. The guard was not injured.
According to Joffre Hannaway of Maser Security, the injured man ran about 20 metres before he collapsed and died.
