Close call for SPCA

Animals were moved away from the thick smoke.

THANKS to the quick thinking of a group of volunteers, a bush fire that broke out last Sunday did not harm the Lower South Coast SPCA premises or any of the animals.

The manager, Michael Muller, said the bush surrounding the SPCA caught alight, but that the fire did not spread onto the property, due to the good housekeeping and gardening at the society’s premises.

“However, a thick blanket of smoke that covered the society’s grounds could have affected the animals in the kennels,” he said.

Mr Muller said that, with the help of some volunteers, they managed to re-kennel the animals on the western side of the premises where the smoke was not as thick.

“We are pleased to report that all our animals are fine,” he said.
