Firecracker causes heart attack

He is still weak, but is recovering at home.

DEON Schreuder (62) was treated by paramedics in the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club beach parking area before being taken to hospital. When the firecracker exploded, Mr Schreuder thought someone was shooting at him.

Mr Schreuder, a salesman for Rip Tide charters, had a heart attack, followed later by a stroke, which has caused the left side of his body to become paralysed.

His daughter, Lynette Mansfield, said the noise from the firecracker was so loud and sudden that it caused extreme stress on his heart. She said her father was recovering at home, but was very weak.
