This visit will be a Truimph

The Triumph Nationals take place on the South Coast from Saturday, April 26 to Thursday, May 1.

LOCAL car enthusiasts are preparing to roll out the red carpet, in readiness for the Triumph Nationals, taking place on the South Coast from Saturday, April 26 to Thursday, May 1.

The Triumph Car Club of South Africa holds the nationals at different venues around South Africa, every second year. This year, it is the South Coast’s turn to host the prestigious gathering. The organisers are expecting Triumph sports car owners from all over southern Africa – and even further afield – to converge on the area for this national event. Two years ago, when the nationals were held in Plettenberg Bay, a car from Malawi joined the Triumph line-up.

The best way for local sports car fans to get to see these iconic little models is to attend concourse day at Ramsgate’s Blue Lagoon on Monday, April 28. Judging will take place that day and the KwaZulu-Natal members are hoping to earn at least some of the medals.

Two KwaZulu-Natal members brought home gold medals from the 2012 nationals. One of them was South Coast car enthusiast Dave Lugg, who owns an immaculate TR3.

Although he was unable to attend the nationals, another South Coast enthusiast, Derek Rudd drove the car to the nationals for Dave and prepared it for concourse.

The youngest South Coast Triumph car owner taking part in the nationals is James Halvorsen who is entering his Spitfire. Look out for it at the concourse. James has spent hours restoring it and it now looks incredible.
