Freedom Flame visits Ugu

More than 2000 people became new homeowners.

THE Freedom Flame visited the South Coast this week. The flame, which symbolises 20 years of freedom, arrived in Umdoni last Saturday and made its rounds in the Vulamehlo, Umzumbe and Hibiscus Coast municipalities.

The flame moved around these municipalities, showcasing a number of developmental projects implemented in the district since South Africa attained democracy 20 years ago. New projects were also unveiled and struggle heroes were honoured.

More than 2000 RDP houses were handed over in Umzumbe along with a crèche, when the flame did its rounds within the municipality. The event, which was held at Mehlomnyama, was attended by the MEC of Human Settlement Ravi Pillay and the MEC of Social Development Weziwe Thusi.

When the flame visited the Hibiscus Coast, 60 houses were handed over in Louisiana, as well as a crèche.

The lamp also made its round in Manaba where new sports and recreation offices were officially opened by MEC Thusi.
