Sinking jet skier saved

The NSRI crew came to the rescue, once again.

A PRETORIA man managed to get safely to shore  after his jet ski started sinking off Ramsgate at around midday on Monday this week.

Allan Stilwell, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Port Edward’s duty controller, said the holidaymaker escaped unharmed.

“A private commercial fishing boat, Lady Atlantis, from Port Edward, assisted in the recovery of the jet ski, although efforts were hampered as it was partially submerged,” said Mr Stilwell.

The NSRI Port Edward volunteer sea rescue duty crew responded to the crisis. “On confirming that the jet skier was safe and not injured, the sea rescue craft Wild Coast Sun Rescuer was launched and  took over the jet ski recovery operation,” said Mr Stilwell.

The NSRI crew managed to get the water out of the jet ski, and tow it to the rescue base in Port Edward. “The cause of the jet ski taking on water was not established,” said Mr Stilwell.
