Pensioners nabbed for peddling drugs

A 35-year-old man has also been taken into custody.

TWO brothers, aged 62 and 64, were found with 1 324 straws of heroin and five rocks of cocaine in a house in Palm Road in Merlewood  last Friday. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be R50 000.

The big drug bust was made by Port Shepstone K9 unit‘s Sergeant Thabane Mofokeng, assisted by members of the Port Shepstone crime prevention unit.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said that on the previous day, officers had noticed a vehicle dropping off a man (35) at a house in Merlewood.

“A while later the man appeared in the doorway, climbed into a vehicle and drove off. The police members intercepted the vehicle and searched it,” she said. A total of 50 straws of heroin were found in the man’s possession. He was arrested and detained. The value of the drugs was R1 750.

All three men will appear in Port Shepstone court for dealing in drugs. Investigations are continuing. Cluster commander of Port Shepstone, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, welcomed the arrests and urged community members to continue supplying the police with information regarding drug dealers in the area.
