A POLICEMAN was stabbed to death at a tavern near Margate last Saturday. Detective Warrant Officer Stanley Goodson Mbhele (47), from Margate SAPS, was a patron at the Dunywa tavern in Nositha.
On Tuesday this week, Margate police arrested two men in Nositha. Police spokesman Brigadier Moodley said the men are due to appear in court soon.
“We have lost an excellent officer who worked well with the community for many years. He was proactive and a dedicated officer in the social crime prevention unit. He’s had a great influence on many people’s lives. It’s so sad that he had to be taken so suddenly,” said Brig Moodley.
He also offered his condolences to the Mbhele family. W/O Mbhele joined the SAPS in 1994 and was posted at the community service centre in Margate.
Thereafter, he was tasked to the social crime prevention unit and, up until his death, was a detective at Margate SAPS.
