Toddler dies after shooting

Msinisini police are investigating a case of attempted murder and a failure to safeguard a firearm docket has been opened.

THE toddler who was shot by his brother (6) in Mabhaleni location near Hibberdene last Thursday, died in a Durban hospital the following morning.

Police spokesman Captain Captain Thulani Zwane from the KZN Media Centre in Durban said Msinisini police are investigating a case of attempted murder and a failure to safeguard a firearm docket has been opened.

At this stage it is not sure whether the child’s parents and other family members were home at the time of the incident.

According to a daily newspaper, the grandmother is a sangoma and widow of a former taxi boss and councillor.

“This is a stark reminder of the importance of keeping firearms locked up,” said Captain Zwane.

The child’s name was not released.
