SOME criminals are more difficult to arrest than others.
A drug dealer (26), who will appear in Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday), thought he could elude arrest by police last night.
But members from the Port Shepstone K9 and TRT teams managed to track him down after a high speed chase and arrested him in Oslo Beach at about 10pm.
Eight plastic bags of dagga, weighing a total of 4.2 kilograms, and several pieces of crack cocaine, were found in the vehicle. The man was charged with being in possession of drugs.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said police members had followed up on information regarding a vehicle which had allegedly been transporting drugs from the north coast.
“Officers deployed to the R102 at Umtentweni saw a blue vehicle approaching in a southerly direction,” she said.
“They tried to flag the vehicle down, but the driver refused to stop. He sped away but then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall in Oslo Beach.”
Lt-Col Wiid said that when the driver jumped out of the vehicle and was told to stop by police, he threatened to attack a policeman with a panga.
“The policeman fired a shot at the man who turned and fled into the nearby bush. Police surrounded the area and the man later surrendered and emerged from the bush,” she said.
The man was wounded in the foot.
