Amakhosi warned about ‘bunking’ meetings

A special meeting will be held for those amakhosi who bunk council meetings.

A SPECIAL meeting will be held to discuss the poor attendance by amakhosi at council meetings. This was revealed at an amakhosi meeting held at the Hibiscus Coast Municipality council chambers last week Thursday.

Nkosi Sifiso Shinga, who chaired the meeting, informed everyone that the tribal authority had received complaints from various local municipalities concerning poor attendance of amakhosi at council meetings.

He added that amakhosi were also not sending apologies or letters reporting as to why they were not attending.

“We have received a letter from Umdoni Municipality complaining about attendance, the municipality has asked the tribal authority house to intervene because the amakhosi were not taking the meetings seriously,” said Mr Shange.

It has been decided that those amakhosi who do not want to be part of council meetings should write letters requesting to be removed from the list of amakhosi who should be attending these meeting, and give others a chance to sit in municipal council meetings.

Mr Shange also shared the importance of attending council meetings.

The Ugu executive committee will hold a special meeting with all those amakhosi who are not attending council meetings to try to find out the reason for the poor attendance.
