Southport goes thirsty

A burst pipe and faulty valve left residents without water for four days.

FOR residents of Southport, it’s been a frustrating week. They have gone nearly four days without water. Many phoned the Herald, annoyed that they had been without water for such a long period. The water supply was abruptly cut on Friday, when a burst pipe was discovered.

And residents were only able to turn on their taps on Tuesday this week. Ugu’s media spokesman, Sipho Khuzwayo said that a pipe break was experienced in the Southport area and repaired by late Friday afternoon.

“Unfortunately upon re-pressurising the system certain roads within the area were found to be problematic in the restoration of the water supply. A valve that controls water supply to these areas was found to be faulty and duly repaired on Monday this week,” said Mr Khuzwayo.

He urged consumers who required updates on water issues, to engage with their ward councillors or visit the water services facebook page Ugu Municipality: Water and Sanitation Services or call 08000 WATER (92837) or (039) 688 5830/36.
