Amahle needs medical help
The teenager has developed ear infections that have impaired her hearing.
A GRADE 10 pupil, from Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, is in urgent need of help and medical assistance.
Four years ago, while in primary school, Amahle Mwawa (18), was among a busload of pupils returning from a sports event when the bus was involved in an accident.
Unfortunately, the injuries she sustained included one that has disfigured her. Her right ear was sheared off. The teenager is now in high school and not only is she in need of cosmetic surgery, she has developed ear infections that have impaired her hearing and are also giving off a foul discharge.
She is one of three children being raised single-handedly by their mother since their father died a year before the accident. They live off a social grant and are battling to make ends meet, let alone being able to afford transport and medical costs. Their home is a modest little house in rural Lusikisiki.
After four years trying to get some help Amahle’s teacher, Thokozile Maphinda, took it upon herself to drive to Margate SAPS to get some help for Amahle. Lieutenant Colonel Muriel Novandla from the Margate SAPS Women’s Network team, who has been responsible for assisting needy and destitute individuals, spoke to Mrs Maphinda and was touched by Amahle’s plight.
“Amahle’s touched me. I know that the community out there can provide a better future for this child. We all know how it feels, when we have a sore tooth or an earache. I can’t imagine what this child goes through every day,” said Lt-Col Novandla.
She makes an earnest appeal to society at large and to experts in the medical field to Amahle’s assistance.
“The assistance she requires includes a hearing aid, cosmetic surgery for a new ear, urgent specialist medical treatment for her ears and any financial aid for transport and other costs,” said Lt-Col Novandla.
Anyone willing to assist can contact Lieutenant-Colonel Novandla at 039 312 9859 or 082 707 2663. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
