Let’s celebrate our ocean and its sharks

Come and support the coast's first Paddle Out for Sharks event.

EVERYONE is invited to The Paddle Out for Sharks for World Oceans Day this Sunday (June 8).

The Paddle Out for Sharks will create an awareness of the importance of shark conservation on World Oceans’ Day, which is an international event where people around the planet celebrate and honour the world’s oceans.

All boats that are taking part must meet at the Shelly Beach Launch Site at 7am. Boat owners, skippers and passengers are asked to register at the CTM gazebo before the boats are launched.

Those who are paddling out on a board or paddle boat to the nets at St Mike’s need to meet at C Bali Restaurant at 7am. Ask for coordinators Heather Clark or Mike Halliday. Mike can be contacted at 082 4969801. NSRI will be attending and helping with the organisation of the boats at sea and safety aspects.

Paddlers from around the world will be meeting to lay flowers on the water at their local shark nets at 8am.

Everyone will be supplied with flowers at the gazebo on registration. Surfers and paddlers can get their flowers from the NSRI boat.

C Freak Charters, with the help of various sponsors, will host the children from the Cornerstone Learning Centre for the day. They will take them to the Paddle Out, while NSRI will assist with ones not able to go on the boat. Afterwards they will be joined by a professional sandcastle builder. Legendary scuba instructor, Karen Tredger, will also give an educational talk on shark conservation and the ocean. Everyone is welcome to have breakfast at the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club at their own cost.

Bring a banner to celebrate World Oceans Day.
