New course markers for Uvongo parkrun

Attractive signage along the route is proving useful to Uvongo parkrunners.

REGULAR parkrunners are most impressed with the new signage marking the Uvongo parkrun route, along Saints’ Walk between St Michael’s and Uvongo beaches.

The informative and attractive course markers give the distance parkrunners have completed, ensure nobody gets lost and are a result of the partnership between Margate Round Tablers, the conveners of the weekly timed runs, and local sponsor, Halfway Toyota.

All South Coast residents are welcome to take part in the parkruns, free 5km runs that start at St Michael’s beach every Saturday at 8am. Register by going to www.parkrun.co.za and obtain your unique bar code, enabling you to have your time recorded when you take part in the Uvongo parkrun or any other parkrun in the world.

Halfway Toyota has partnered with Margate Round Table to make the local Uvongo parkrun a success. The sponsorship greatly assists in the convening of the local event.

“The parkrun has national sponsors but without the support of a local sponsor, the event just wouldn’t be the same. Uvongo parkrun is known as the friendliest parkrun in South Africa. Halfway Toyota’s sponsorship has seen the introduction of the first 12 parkrun course markers on the route, with another 12 expected to follow, and further plans are under way for the course,” said Margate Round Tabler Jason Morsink.

Thanks to the sponsorship, the Round Tablers have been able to upgrade the route, provide refreshments and obtain much needed equipment. The Uvongo parkrun’s giant first birthday cake was also made possible through the kind sponsorship of Halfway Toyota.

“Halfway Toyota and Round Table have been involved with keep fit projects on the South Coast for many years. One example of this partnership was the installation of taps for joggers at Toyota garages. Margate Round Table thanks Halfway Toyota for its continued support and for partnering the club in this free community event,” Jason said. He invited all local residents of all ages and degrees of fitness to join the Uvongo parkrunners.
