Revamp starts at local mall
The Southcoast Mall is to undergo a substantial reconfiguration.
TO allay rumours and speculation regarding the Southcoast Mall, its owner, Redefine Properties Ltd, has announced that a substantial reconfiguration and redevelopment of the centre is being unveiled.
According to a Redefine Properties spokesman the Southcoast Mall was considered a valuable asset within the Redefine portfolio. It was with this in mind that many months of planning were now reaching finality.
This month construction teams will move on site to commence the first of the development’s three phases, which will run successively one after the other.
“Strategic tenant relocations and reconfigurations will begin in earnest during the next few months, each of which will be relayed to customers via various media platforms in order to reduce the inconvenience factor as much as possible. Extensive negotiations are under way with a number of key national tenants for space within the centre. All have been specifically chosen to complement the existing tenant mix,” the spokesman said.
Phase one will see construction of new premises to house Galaxy Bingo, a premier gaming facility that is currently completing its shop fitting in Durban’s Pavilion Shopping Centre. These 750m² premises will be near the middle entrance to the centre. They are scheduled for completion in October, with the operator opening its doors in time for the December season.
Phase one includes the relocation of Ramsgate Stationers, to new premises within the centre. Redefine Properties is in negotiation with Mr Price Sport for premises, within the phase one stage of the development, and with a national food chain for an outlet of approximately 2000m² to open next year when phase two will be under way. It is intended that Mr Price Sport will commence trade before the end of this year.
After the completion of phase one, the two adjacent entrances will be attended to during phases two and three. Particular attention will be paid to the food court, toilet facilities and to the overall shopping experience. The centre will continue to trade throughout, with the least possible inconvenience to customers. Any disruptions will be relayed to customers timeously. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2015. Leasing opportunities are available.
