Man dies after car plunges into river

The man died despite valiant attempts to save him.

A MAN in his mid-20s died and four others were injured when the car in which they were travelling plunged into the Umlungwa river at  Hibberdene last Sunday.

Despite  attempts to save the man, who was a passenger in the front seat, he died at the scene.

According to police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, the accident occurred at around 11pm.

“The car with five occupants landed in the Umlungwa river on the R102,” she said.  A culpable homicide docket was opened and police are investigating.
