Margate police officers commended

The case was investigated in a professional and excellent manner.

FOURTEEN police officers at Margate SAPS cluster received commendation certificates for the excellent investigation of two men involved in house robbery and rape cases by Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Cyprian Mjabuliswa Ngcobo.

The officers’ teamwork resulted in the conviction of the two accused Bongumusa Mbho Hadeba (31) and his accomplice Bongunkosi Mhlongo (22) from Dumezulu, Port Edward. Both men committed crimes of house robbery and rape between July and November 2012.

They were arrested by the officers from the Margate Task Team in Izingolweni in January last year. Both men were sentenced to a total of 270 years’ imprisonment in the Pietermartzburg High Court in May.

Apart from the SAPS, the team of officers was commended by Judge Jacqueline Henriques. She thanked Brigadier Morris Moodley for personally taking charge of the investigation and investigating such a serious threat in his cluster.

“He personally effected the arrest of both the accused with the cluster task team and recovered the stolen property. The case was investigated in a professional and excellent manner. It gives me a sense of confidence that there are still dedicated police officers in the SAPS,” she said.
