This year's only Friday the 13th is upon us - and it's paired with a full moon.

TODAY is Friday 13th – enough to strike fear in the hearts of the superstitious.  This occasional calendar quirk has revived old fears of bad luck and calamities, ranging from car accidents to stock market crashes.

According to an article in the National Geographic, the superstition surrounding Friday 13th is rooted in Western culture and Biblical events.

And the fear associated with this day has been amplified by everybody’s favourite slasher-flick franchise, Friday the 13th,  featuring the bone-chilling, hockey-masked murderer Jason Voorhees.
