Plain or purl, they were all in stitches
This global event knitted the countries of the world together.
EVEN if you could not knit a stitch, you were given the opportunity to at least try to do so at the World-Wide Knit In Public Day (WWKIP Day) at the Waffle House, Ramsgate last Saturday.
Organisers went all out to encourage as many local people as possible to be part of this global knit-in. The World Wide Knit In Public Day was started by Danielle Landes in 2005. Her goal was to bring knitters together in a public location to knit and to enjoy each others’ company.
Since then this slightly wacky, fun idea has earned massive global support and Ramsgate aimed to be part of it. The Knit In Public Day included knitting, crocheting and other fibre arts. Globally, it takes place on the second Saturday of June each year.
Hazel Voice and Elsbeth Koen, who co-ordinated the local event, said that, to add colour to the surroundings, a couple of them ‘yarn bombed’ part of the Knit In Public Day venue. “This means we covered much of the venue and its furniture with colourful knitted items,’ they said.
