HARD work is finally paying off for fashion designer Innocenia ‘Inno’ Mahlambi (24) from Margate.
The up-and-coming fashion designer is showcasing her own clothing designs at Margate Hotel on Wednesday, July 2 at 6pm. Entrance is free and everyone is invited.
The event entitled ‘Slistyles’ Fashion Design Show’ is Innocentia’s very own initiative and she plans to ‘wow’ guests by showcasing 20 outfits or more on the evening.
The friendly woman has had to provide for herself from a young age and has triumphed over much hardship in her life to get to where she is today.
Innocentia herself is an inspiration and a shining example that entrepreneurship is possible in a tough South African economy where unemployment is rife.
Passionate about fashion, Innocentia is determined and focused on achieving her goals.
“I told myself I’m going to do it. If you have a talent, go out and do it, don’t be shy and sit back or wait for anyone,” she said. She advises the youth to think out of the box, grab opportunities, believe in their talents and not to shy away from hard work.
Innocentia is a self-taught wonder and believes she is naturally gifted to work with her hands. “I learnt how to handstitch by watching my grandmother,” she said.
After saving her rands, she is today the proud owner of two sewing machines which she uses to make up her designs.
Her creative designs secured her a second place at this year’s Recycled Fashion Show held at the Margate Museum.
She dreams of showcasing her clothes one day alongside top international designers.
“God has given me a chance to do something with my life and I am determined to do something positive,” she said.
