Beauty pageant draws the crowds

A number of contestants strutted their stuff in the hopes of walking off with a beauty title.

THE Miss Ugu 2014 pageant, presented by Lee Models, at Hillbillion Estate, Oslo Beach was a huge hit last Saturday. An exciting and entertaining programme made the much-anticipated event a memorable one for the contestants and guests alike.

And despite the chilly winter weather, guests attended in their numbers. Contestants modelled in glamorous outfits which made the judges’ task really difficult. After much deliberating the winners were announced to much applause from the enthusiastic crowd.

In the four to seven year-old category the winner was Anica Botha (middle). She is flanked by her princesses, Zerelda Venter (left) and Elaine Mazeka.

Winner of the title Miss Ugu 2014, Tarusha Gounder of Marburg, said that she blushes when she thinks about the pageant.

“It’s hard to comprehend that I actually won! But I’m honoured that the judges and guests voted me as their number one,” she said.

Tarusha has won many other beauty pageants before and advises girls pursuing a career in modelling to ‘follow your heart, trust your instincts but most importantly, believe in yourself.’

In the 13 to 15 year-old age category, Kelly Upfold was the winner and her two princesses were Savanna Levin (left) and Siyathokoza Zulu.
