Striders prepare for Sardine Marathon

The weather was perfect for running.

THE South Coast Striders held their 21km club championships last Sunday.

The weather played its part in the success of the day, as did the Ridley family when it came to organising.

A total of 40 Striders took part, with Michael Mzobe and Xesibe Themba crossing the line together in a time of 1:17:06.

The first woman home was Mignon Klusener in 1:52:18.

Hannes Streuderst was the first walker to finish in a time of 2:41:35.

Ellene Barbadimos won the women’s walking section in 2:41:35.

The Sardine Marathon takes place this Sunday and members are needed to assist on the day.

Contact Debbie Ridley at 082 4415370 or Isak Ludick at 072 3205648.

Those working as marshals must meet Isak at the clubhouse this Sunday at 5.30am.

Members are reminded that they may not take part in the running or walking on race day except by written consent from the committee/chairman.

Walkers’ time trial results from June 4: Hannes Streudest 27.00, Marcelle Ripley 30.00, Shelagh Schwegman 32.10, Pat Millar 34.52, Jinks Brokensha 34.52.
