Thousands of litres of water wasted
Water and sewage problems continue to plague the coast.
THEY say that future wars are more likely to be fought over water than oil. Difficult to imagine, but not entirely impossible as water is a valuable resource.
Yet for five days last week, water spewed from a meter in Diagonal Road, Sunwich Port.
Calls to Ugu District Municipality apparently fell on deaf ears, leading to residents contacting the Herald.
This reporter travelled to Diagonal Road and found water spurting metres into the air before flowing down the road.
Sphelele Cele, Ugu District Municipality’s spokesman, said she had notified a team about the problem.
The Herald also received photographs of water which had apparently been spraying for weeks at the Margate bus stop near the Village Tavern. It’s believed taxi drivers were using the water to wash their vehicles.
Sewage was reported to be flowing down the road and into the sea near holiday flats in Manaba and Oslo Beach residents were reportedly without water several times during the course of last week.
