THE rehabilitation of Commercial Road in Umtentweni is now complete.
Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor Cynthia Mqwebu officially opened the road on Monday this week.
“Many will remember that the issue of the road was also raised at a meeting between residents and the municipality. Residents will remember that I promised them that the municipality would fix the road. I am glad to say that HCM has kept its promise,” she said.
The road was deteriorating due to stormwater run-off. The company in charge of rehabilitating the road had to improve the drainage system and resurface the road.
The road has been rehabilitated from Rethman Drive to the intersection with the R61, a distance of 1,4 kilometres. The project cost R4.2 million.
“I would like to thank Margate Construction for a job well done, it was able to finish the project within the three months allocated for completion,” said HCM municipal manager Max Mbili.
He added that the company had guaranteed that there would be no potholes on this road for the next seven years.
