Jazz weekend gets a thumbs up

Residents say this year's event was well executed.

SOUTH Coast residents have given the organisers of the Ugu Jazz Festival a thumbs up.

This year’s jazz festival has been said to be one of the best ever. Marburg residents said they were pleased with the way Cyassounds Holdings planned the event.

Dinesh Pillay of Marburg said that he has received positive comments from the community.

“Even though there were a few concerns, the organisers kept the promises they made at the meeting prior to the event,” said Mr Pillay.

He revealed that the roads at the Ugu Jazz Pre-party venue were closed off, allowing only residents with car discs to use them.

“For once our driveways were free, we had no partygoers blocking us,” he added.

He added that organisers also supplied residents with ear-plugs. “We, as residents, were really impressed by the way the event was planned,” he said.

Tess Mkhungu, who is also a Marburg resident, said she was pleased with the way the pre-party was planned. “We were given our permits and ear-plugs as promised, and the cleaning team made sure that the place was cleaned by Saturday morning,” she said.

Even farmers who stay near the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre said there was a lot of improvement in the planning of this year’s event. “We received our permits which allowed us to use Knox-Gore Road,” said local farmer Scot Scott.

“The security was tighter and we had no damage on our properties this year,” he added. However, he shared his concerns about the noise level.

“I still don’t understand how the jazz festival can go on past midnight,” he said. He revealed that the noise levels were still high.

St Mike’s residents also applauded the organisers, saying that the jazz picnic was well organised.

Founder of Cyassounds Holdings, Siyabonga Msomi, said he was satisfied with this event. “I am not saying everything was perfect, but I am happy with the way the whole weekend turned out,” he said.
