The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is encouraging South Africans to draft or update their wills during National Wills Week, from September 14 to 18, and consider leaving a legacy gift to help save lives.

A valid will ensures people’s wishes are respected and allows them to provide for loved ones and causes they value.

Legacy gifts to the NSRI can help fund rescue vessels, equipment, volunteer training and drowning-prevention programmes, including water safety and Survival Swimming initiatives in communities.

NSRI Community Fundraiser Renée Leeuwner said even small gifts could make a meaningful difference.

“Leaving a gift to the NSRI in your will is a deeply personal and quietly powerful way to continue making a difference,” she said.

National Wills Week also offers free basic will-drafting services through participating attorneys.

South Africans are urged to draft a will, review an existing one and consider including a legacy gift to the NSRI.
