No ‘bonus’ for 2014 matriculants
The policy was intended as an interim measure.
FOR the first time since 1999, matrics whose first language is not English or Afrikaans will not benefit from an additional five percent ‘bonus’ in non-language subjects such as geography and maths.
This is according to a report in the Mercury, as published on the IOL news website earlier today.
The idea behind the policy, which was always intended as an interim measure, was to compensate pupils for the disadvantage of being forced to write final exams in a language other than their mother tongue.
It meant that if a pupil’s original mark in a non-language subject was 50 percent, they would receive an additional 2.5 percentage points.
