Official firearm left unattended in loo

A MUNICIPAL officer might well rue the day he left his gun in the loo.

Luckily it was found before it disappeared into some criminal’s arsenal, but his superiors aren’t taking his alleged carelessness lightly.

The officer apparently failed to report that he had mislaid the firearm in the bathroom at the Umzinto Protection Services and his superior had to trace it to him through the serial number.

A disciplinary hearing is to be held later this month. An SAPS spokesman said that the Firearms Act was very strict on officers safeguarding their weapons.
