MANY frustrated Marburg and Oslo Beach residents complained to the Herald about being without water for the whole of Thursday and Friday last week.
Protea Park residents were also without water after Ugu had to repair a burst water pipe in their area. Spokesman for Ugu, Sipho Khuzwayo, said that the municipality apologises to the affected communities.
“Due to the rehabilitation of the main road through Marburg, the existing pipelines had to be relocated. The relocation is done through the contractors working on the road under the monitoring of Ugu management,” he said.
“The water outage was planned and should not have affected so many consumers. However, during the course of the outage the secondary pipeline that feeds the area in question was damaged by road contractors, resulting in the total disruption of supply to the Marburg and Oslo Beach areas. This also resulted in the water tanker filling point at Marburg being affected and water had to be brought in from the Umtamvuna water point.”
