Brace yourselves for ‘water shedding’
Ugu District Municipality has made a plea for households to reduce water usage by up to 50 percent.
UGU District municipality have warned of impending ‘water shedding’ if communities don’t drastically curb their thirst immediately. Umzinto and EJ Smith dams at dangerously low due to one of the driest winters in history.
If we don’t have substantial rain within the next few weeks, these dams may be totally dry by month end, leaving many communities without water.
Some of the areas that will be affected are Pennington, Umdoni Retirement Village, Selborne Golf Estate, Kelso, Rocky Bay, Park Rynie, Umzinto, Amandawe and Dududu.
Ugu District Municipality has made a plea for households to reduce water usage by up to 50 percent. Cut out washing vehicles, motor cycles, boats, paths and paved areas, using irrigation and sprinkler systems, automatic flushing urinals and watering of gardens.
“It is imperative that communities fully understand that continuous water supply also depends on how they treat this resource. Tight restrictions must be put in place to prolong supply,” said the municipality.
The municipality also encourages the community to report water leaks through their ward councillors or call 08000 WATER (92837) or 039-688 5830/36 or SMS 44751.
